Comments anyone?
Was this adaption of sealed deck building to the new format of seed only sealed useful? Was it too advanced and abstract or quite the opposite? Let me know for future articles. |

I loved this article, Hans! I think it was very thorough and explained quite well. I enjoy seeing all the cards available to you and your mind-set behind choosing why you choose what you did. It's definitely valuable information to have a glimpse into one of the great Spoils minds!

I was reading the pool, thought it was mediocre with only 2 really good rares.
Then I read the article and Hans comes to the same conclusion. I would not have built the ressources as such. I'd have started 1 greed + 1 Gearsmith so that I have the option of playing turn 0 karmic cake and still be able to play my 1 threshold gearsmith cards (cowering golem). Nevertheless, this build does allow your pirates to enter play and draw a card in the late game, so it's okay as well, Im just saying I'd have done it differently.

I agree with Julien. It was a well written article but I too would have started 1 greed and 1 elitism

This is a bit past due: but as I am getting excited for GenCon, I thought I would look over this article and weigh in. Hans presents some interesting ideas. I would recommend a full text list of the final deck for any future articles. I was surprised by how quickly Arcanist was dismissed--and Wand of Possession not mentioned. I believe Wand is quite a bomb and will definitely win games when left unchecked. There are 3 good rares in this pool
![]() I would do a hitchhiker resource base for this build: limiting 2 trades to 1 thresh each and drawing into 1 or 2 other trades. Here is my build: 2 Horrifying Brain Monkey 1 Mesmerizing Enchantress 1 Nefarious Horror 2 Shrouded Demon 1 Wand of Possession 1 Brainbath 1 Anathematize 1 Black Scourge of the Brine 2 Crushing Usury 1 Inconvenient Roadblock 1 Karmic Cake 1 Unscrupulous Attendant 1 Cowering Golem 2 Massive Erecting Golem 2 Mud Whisperer Wannabe 1 Repurpose 1 Runic Tattoo Artist 1 Tamper 2 Agile Highwayman 1 Guttersnipe 2 Slinking Bandido 1 Deception 1 Greed 6 Elitism 9 Obssession The Tournament Faction This deck has a pretty aggressive curve without sacrificing late game. The gameplan is to get in some early damage and finish them off with covert characters while holding down the fort with our other non-covert dudes and removal. It is painful to not play the good Warlord cards, but the threshold requirements for the trade are inhibitive, and Repurpose pretty much seals the deal for me. With access to item removal, we can deal with pretty anything (Chamber Pot anyone?). As mentioned, removal is a weakness of this pool. The Brain Monkey's will help in this department. The threshold requirements will probably be a bit clunky working up to 6 resources. But hey it's sealed: everyone's deck is a little clunky. I would like to play this deck to see how the gameplan works out. I actually think this deck looks pretty solid given an on-the-surface less-than-exciting pool. I dont like your build so much because it has too many 1 life characters for my taste. This enables Warlord cards to wreck your board very resource efficient and you are definitely going to play against some of those over the course of a tournament. If you build your deck and mine from the article and use them to play some games with a friend, you will see, what i mean.
See you at Gen Con! ![]()
